Yangoo Zoo to celebrate 64th birthday of pachyderm Mo Mo in coming October, 2017

Yangon Zoological Garden, one of the conglomerates of HTOO Group of Companies, will hold a birthday celebration for Mo Mo, the elephant on 21-22 October, 2017, to celebrate her 64th birthday.

The celebration will include music performances, animal dance, games and magical shows plus comedian show. Mo Mo was contributed to the zoo by U Khoon Sandah from Loikaw of Kayah State in 1961.

To expand your view of world, here are some facts about elephant. An elephant has cognitive mental power to some extent. Elephants exhibit mirror self-recognition, an indication of self-awareness and cognition that has also been demonstrated in in some apes and dolphins.

It is the function of hippocampus. The hippocampus belongs to the limbic system and plays important roles in the consolidation of information from short-term memory to long-term memory, and in spatial memory that enables navigation.

So, some researchers said that an elephant can recognize his or her habitat area, even after he or she had moved away from the area about last 20 years ago.

Mo Mo has been entertaining her visitors with dance for many years at the zoo. Her special trick is playing the harmonica and shaking her hips to the beat.
