An earthquake that has occurred on 24th August 2016 in Bagan Nyaung Oo area had damaged many ancient pagodas and buildings.
For the purpose of maintenance and repairing works, there was a donation ceremony on 5th May 2017 at the Bagan Ancient Museum, where Vice President U Myint Swe has attended, accepted the donations and certificate of honour for the contributions were given to the donors.
Due to the earthquake, a total of 389 ancient pagodas and buildings have damaged, whilst the emergency response for maintenance, protection and repairing works have started. Many people from all parts of the country, soldiers, Myanmar Police Force and members of many welfare associations have collaborated and participated in the emergency response for maintenance, protection and repairing works.
